hot pants have quite the reputation in popular culture, but it’s time to upgrade your perception of these casual bottoms! They are made in virtually every kind of fabric such as khaki, denim, cotton, rayon, and so on.
A casual and fun garment, hot pants can be the correct choice for fitness activities, and can also be accessorized for an enviable and fashionable look. Get inspired with these hot pants styling tips!
Outfit 1: Walking around town
If you’re planning on walking around town, be sure to pair your hot pants with a shirt that has enough length. Try pairing yours with a lightweight t-shirt in an eye-catching color such as green or red. I love and own several vintage tee shirts that I’ve paired with my hot pants, but if you don’t have any lying around it is also easy to find them at thrift stores or vintage shops. They’re often less than $10 and are usually very bright colors so they make a statement! For shoes, consider wearing flat sandals or low wedges. You could even wear your hot pants barefoot if you want! Just make sure that whatever you choose will be comfortable enough for walking around all day.
Outfit 2: Going shopping
Summer is just around the corner and it’s time to think about your summer wardrobe. One of my favorite pieces in women’s shorts—I find them so versatile. My only rule when shopping for shorts is, that you have to love them. They don’t have to be perfect in every way but they do need to speak your style and be flattering on your body. Here are some outfit ideas that are easy to wear and stylish
Outfit 3: Training outdoors
Comfortable and casual, you’ll also want hot pants as your training wear. Select comfy fabrics that dry quickly so you can keep training even if it rains or if you spill water on yourself. Team your hot pants with t-shirts, tank tops, and trainers for an everyday look that’s great for summer! To look chic yet athletic, accessorize with sunglasses, watches, and sneakers. When it comes to sports bras, go braless or wear something strappy and low-cut that shows off your assets. You can also pair your outfit with loose bracelets and accessories like headbands to complete your look. Just remember: no matter what fabric or color you choose, make sure your hot pants are formfitting so they complement instead of hiding your curves!
Outfit 4: For the beach
Accessorize your hot pants with an athletic top and sneakers. This is also a great option if you’re headed to work after beach activities. To keep up with trends, visit your favorite jewelry store and accessorize with shades and chunky jewelry that complements your tanned skin. Finish it off with some light, fruity-scented sunblock and you’re ready to go! Want an even fancier look? Accessorize hot pants by pairing them with wedge heels or high boots, floral headbands, or long earrings. A tunic shirt, leggings, or printed shorts can also be layered over hot pants for a more formal look that’s still super-chic.
Outfit 5: Doing yoga or pilates
You can dress in lightweight capris and a long-sleeved shirt or tank top, along with tights that are not too tight. Ankle boots or sneakers would be great footwear choices; these will give you stability as well as comfort. You can also wear colorful cropped pants made of linen, cotton, or silk. If you prefer tunics or looser-fitting tops, then go ahead with those options as well. Just make sure your hot pants are lightweight and comfortable. Remember, you will be stretching so it helps if your shorts are loose enough for ease of movement.
Outfit 6: At parties
If you’re looking for an outfit to wear out with friends, it doesn’t get much more fun than hot pants. And since these kinds of pants usually come in loud and bright colors, you don’t need to worry about them conflicting with your top. Stick with one-color outfits—like hot pink paired with black or navy blue. You can also accessorize your ensemble with chains, bracelets, and hoop earrings. At clubs: For clubs, try wearing a pair of hot pants with an oversized t-shirt that covers up your booty—leaving just enough skin visible at any point along your legs when you dance to show off what you got!
The possible negative connotations
One of these connotations is that your hot pants are too short. Most women’s shorts are generally above mid-thigh, and if you have long legs then chances are your shorts will end up at your upper thigh, making them look more like leggings than actual shorts. When choosing women’s clothing, especially something with such an urban name as hot pants, be mindful of how short you want them to be so that you won’t be called out for wearing them inappropriately! (This is also why some people won’t wear anything above their knee.)
Closing tips
Women’s shorts are one of those items that can be extremely versatile. If you’re going to wear your shorts outside of fitness, then style them just like you would your favorite pair of pants or denim shorts. The only difference is, that you won’t be wearing a top underneath them. Go for colorful leggings and tights, an off-the-shoulder sweater, and some bold earrings. Add some fun sneakers if you want and off you go!
